A Thank-You Letter to Obama

I wanted to give a quick “thank you” to Barack Obama. We don’t often hear the positive aspects of his governing because of the right-leaning media. I just want to take a few moments to say thanks for some things that, I’m sure, will make our lives better if not perfect.

Thank you for appointing Timothy Geithner as U.S. Treasury Secretary. He failed to pay $34,000 in taxes and apparently doesn’t understand some of the regulations he helped set up, but how very crafty you were to chose him as an example of what not to do.

Thank you for appointing Tom Daschle as Secretary of Health and Human Services. He failed to pay $120,000 in taxes but…oh wait, he withdrew his name. Moving on-

Thank you for raising the taxes on those making over $250,000. They worked very hard for their money and shouldn’t be allowed to keep it all for themselves. I know my husband and I hope to make that much some day and look forward to having it taken from us as well.

Thank you for closing Guantanamo Bay. Having a secure facility, off the U.S. coast, where we keep some of the worlds worst mass murderers is just cruel. I would much rather see them sent to facilities close to us or sent back to their own country where, I’m sure, justice would be served.

Thank you in advance for your future plans to restrict gun ownership. I, for one, would hate to have a pistol on hand if a gun-toting robber broke into my house. Someone might get hurt!

Thank you for the billions of dollars you spent on the stimulus. Watching our 401K plummet by nearly $10,000 was a lesson in economics I was thrilled to learn.

Finally, thank you for the lavish dinner parties you throw every Wednesday. I’ve never been to one, but sitting at home eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while watching you trip the light fantastic makes my heart swell in these tough economic times.

Bigger Government and Higher Taxes...Will the Fun Ever End?

I would like to start off by saying that I am neither a Democrat nor Republican. If I have any tendencies it would be toward the latter, but I’m basically an Independent Conservative. I have always voted on the issues and character of the people running. That’s why when Obama was running for office, all of my alarms started to go off. I just kept thinking, “He talks a good game, but something isn't right.” I was afraid that if he won, he would not only raise taxes but expand the government’s control and throw massive amounts of money (that we don’t have) at all sorts of pet projects and social programs. Well, he didn’t disappoint. He is just marching us down that yellow brick road to Socialism and the majority of people don’t even see it! It began with the bailouts. It’s almost a joke now. Car companies, mortgage companies, banks…what’s next? My fear is that it will be nationalized healthcare. And the “stimulus” package? Thinking about it makes blood shoot out of my eyes! He’s only been in a month and he’s already spent more money than any other president in history, mostly on things we don’t even need! For example: almost 2 million dollars on swine odor in Iowa – are you kidding me? Now how do you think he’s going to pay for all this? Anyone, anyone…raise taxes. Right now it’s “only” going to affect those making over $250,000. I guarantee that won’t be enough. Soon it will be those who make $200,000 then $100,000 then $75,000 and so on. He won’t do it all at once. It’s incremental. Every one of you reading this WILL end up paying for it. I recently read a quote by Dr. Adrian Pierce Rogers that sums things up. "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
